Enough about flowers

Winter brings cold snow showers

So I knit you a hat, dontchya know!

I suck at poetry.

But I'm a darn good knitter.

An impeccable flower maker.

Originally,
I didn't worry that I would want to keep
the hat I was making for Mary.
Gold.
Blech.
Sooooo not my color.

Then I put it on.
And I am
In
Love
with this hat.

I would marry it.

If I weren't already married.
And if partnership with inanimate objects was legal.
Which it's not.
Turns out hats aren't the only ones
who are not allowed
to wed....

But I digress.

If it didn't itch my head,
This hat:

It would be mine.

Forever and ever.
Amen.

I Shall Call You Squishy, And You Shall Be Mine....

My phone rang this morning.
A great friend
who I worked with at my old job
was calling to ask if I would kindly knit her a hat.

"Of Course, Dahling!" I told her.
We talked about style (slouchy)
and yarn color (brown)
and I set my mind in motion.

Moments after we hung up
I had gotten a text asking
ever so nicely
if I could maybe
just maybe
use green, too.

"Ah, but of course, dahling!"

Off to work I went.
I have a day job, after all.
I have work to do besides knit, quilt, and take photos.

(bummer, I know!)

During the course of my day,
I happened to travel by one of my new favorite yarn stores,
Gauge Knits
and I found
the most
delicious
yarn.

Normally,
I'm a Malabrigo fanatic.
Lunatic.
Psycho crazy person.
Merino wool is my weakness.
In every way.

But today, was different.
I bought squishy
dreamy
soft
peruvian wool.

I didn't buy brown.
I didn't buy green, either.
I bought gold.
And I am in loooooooooooove
with this yarn:

I cannot wait to see how the hat turns out.

I am going to make the flower using a lighter gold

with a little

sparkly sheen.

Because girls need a touch

of girly-ness

every now and then.

Mary,
I hope you love the yarn I picked.

But if you don't

I know I said today was different.
That today I wasn't psycho crazed Malabrigo lady.
What I meant to say was,
I am always a sucker for a dreamy Merino.

I Make Hats

The fruit bowl on my kitchen table is filled with hats that I've made over the last couple weeks. It's actually a great way to display them.

I just thought this photo was too cute to not share. She's so good about wearing hats so that Momma can snap a photo. I truly am blessed.

A good friend told me this hat looked like an Arizona Sunset. I agree..and I love the fabric. It's made out of recycled cotton and is fabulous to work with.

Green stripes. I love the monochromatic look of this hat. I got the idea for the button from Susie's blog and was lucky enough to have a green button that matched perfectly.

Finally....Fair Isle!!

I made my first Fair Isle anything last night and I'm sooooo excited about it. It's a hat for my brother for his birthday next week and it's blue with a band of snowflakes. For those of you who knit -- you know exactly the excitment I'm feeling -- a new skill and whole new world of possibilites!!! For those of you who don't...the photos are coming....

More Hats

Here are photos of the last four hats that I made. The two gorgeous girls are the daughter and grand-daughter of a co-worker of mine. She asked for matching hats for them as a Christmas gift becuase her daughter was deeply in love with the hat I made for Maren. I think they look great.

Maren's Hat

For those of you who don't know, I've been busy making hats for friends and family this winter. So far, my hat count is up to 16!! A co-worker of mine was blessed with a baby girl, Maren, in April, and asked for a hat to help keep her ears warm this winter. They then won a free photo shoot with an amazing photographer, and were kind enough to showcase my hat in their photos. I thought I'd post them here and let you all enjoy. She's just tooooo cute....

Little Blue Riding Hood

I managed to get one picture uploaded last night. Here's the sweater I knit for Elena. I'm currently working on the same one for my nephew Logan, and when that's done, I'll be starting one for Elena's friend Audrey for Christmas.

The Little Sweater That Could

After my success with Dog Sister's sweater, I decided to try my hand at one for Elena. It took me about a week, and I finally finished it last night. I put it on Elena this morning and realized that I made it the perfect size for her -- three weeks ago. So now, it is going to be gifted to Elena's dear friend Audrey. I hope she likes it as much as Elena did. I'll be making Elena another version of this one for next year, and hopefully the it'll fit for more than 38.7 seconds.
