Remember that grammar quiz I had a few weeks back?
A classmate of mine from high school
wowed me with her grammar prowess
and won a photo shoot with yours truly.
(A dear blog-reader, Faith, won a prize, too,
which I am currently making.
Did you read that, Faith?!? It's coming! Promise!)
We met last Friday,
when the wind was whipping
and the sun was hiding.
Here are a few favorites from our session:
Thank you Kristi,
for being amazing at grammar,
and sharing your family with me for the briefest of moments.
Cheers,
A

A Grammar Quiz! Pre-Study
I hope you've studied.
Brushed up on your participles, conjunctions, and spelling.
If not....
crack those books, kids, it's (almost) time for the first ever
Family Pelton Grammar Quiz!
But before I test your smarts,
which will happen at 7:30 pm tonight (set your clocks!)
I thought it best to go over the rules.
They are as follows:
The quiz will be open until midnight tomorrow (Thursday) and the winner will be announced on Friday! Submit your answers using the comment form (only one entry per person).
The PRIZE:
Is unprecedented at TFP.

It involves me, my camera, and you.
That is to say, the winner receives a photo session (up to one hour) with Athena Pelton Photography.

But if you're not in my area and want to play, don't worry! Your prize involves me, my knitting needles, and your hat-less head.
That is to say, the non-local winner receives a hat from Athena Pelton.....Hattery? Knittery? Yarngoods??

How to Win:
Answer all the questions correctly. I will randomly draw the winner from those who achieve Grammar Nirvana.
Caveat:
If no one answers all the questions correctly, I will randomly select a winner from all who play.
If no one answers all the questions correctly, I will randomly select a winner from all who play.
Which means:
any way you slice it, someone is going to win on Friday.

Which really is the best way to slice it, if you ask me.....
Happy Studying!

Tomorrow...
Or at some point this week,
there will be a grammar quiz on this here blog.
You're.
Your.
It's.
Its.
Commonly misspelled words.
Affect.
Effect.
Use of hyperbole.
How to correctly spell tomorrow.
The usual offenders.
My big peeves.
I'll announce the particulars on the day of the quiz,
but the prize is going to be big.
It's not a hat.
Or an apron.
Or anything handmade for that matter.
It's way better....
Study up, friends!
Cheers,
A

Shop, Save, Win.
Most of you know
or have heard me reference
my dear friend
She has an etsy shop.
It is marvelous.
She makes and sells the most wonderful things.
Hats,
knitting patterns,
camera straps,
laptop and iPad cases,
scarves,
pillows,
bibs,
coin/makeup/misc pouches/clutches
and
Patchwork Wallets.I have one of these coming.
I'll blog photos of that once I get it and fill it up with all my junk.
(I also have a pleated zipper pouch and I simply adore it.)
Her items are so meticulously well made.
Thought out.
Planned.
And she has impeccable taste
when it comes to picking fabric.
She also embroiders!
This wallet has a little reminder
(as if we girls needed it)
Check out her full store
here.
Luc and I think
that everyone should have a little something
from lucends
at home.
In light of this,
I will be giving away one item
(not necessarily a patchwork wallet...)
handmade by lucinda
for one lucky person.

Pay It Forward
Something amazing has happened
in the world of craft
today.
My facebook page was overflowing
with status updates
of people wanting to
Pay It Forward in 2011.
The deal is,
they will send one handmade item
to the first five people who comment on their status.
Those five people must then agree to do the same.
And so on
and so forth.
This outpouring
of handmade handouts
has gone
viral.
I've decided to participate.
I am going to send items to five of my friends on facebook.
Which means,
that exponentially more
will be receiving something
made
from
scratch
in 2011.
Since not all of you readers
are my friends on facebook
I thought I would extend the offer to you
as well.
I can't sign up for five more items, though.
I just don't have the time.
BUT
I can sign up for one.
So here's the skinny:
(obviously I am not referring to my midsection)
Leave a comment on this blog post.
On Sunday I (with the help of Random.org) will pick one comment
whose author will receive a gift
handmade
by me.
PROVIDED they are willing
to pay it forward
as well.
Cheers,
A

This Day Will Go Down in Infamy....
12.04.2010
Take Two for Megan, & Another Giveaway!
I made a hat for Megan.
She liked it.
Didn't love it.
Only because she had her heart set
on a hat with a brim.
I set off on a new hat
for Megan
working as hard as my little fingers could carry me
in the hope of having it ready Thanksgiving weekend.
Then DRL went to San Diego.
Then Belle broke her leg.
Then I fell down the stairs.
And I didn't knit a stitch last weekend.
I finally finished it this morning
and will send it off in the mail this afternoon.
Megan,
I hope
hope
hope
this hat fits the bill.
No pun intended.
It's my favorite brand of yarn:
Malabrigo.
In a color called Pearl.
A gorgeous grey
with the faintest hint
of pink and white.
My favorite yarn in my favorite colorway.
Made into one of my favorite hats.
And,
since it's Saturday
since I took a day off from blogging,
and since it is the fourth day of Chanukah
I am giving away another hat!
Also made with Malabrigo worsted merino wool.
Obviously,
it is a woman's hat
and it'll fit {most} heads.
All you have to do to enter is post a comment answering the following question:
What is your favorite gift to give?
Are you the type that likes to pick out the perfect gift?
Or are gift certificates more your gift-giving style?
Are you a scented candle giver-outer?
Or do you agonize over what to give and wait until the last minute to complete your shopping?
(raises hand)
I will pick one random commenter
(with the help of random.org)
and announce the winner on Wednesday.
Therefore,
entries must be received by 12:00PM (CST) on TUESDAY December 7th.
The day that will go down
in
Infamy.
Cheers,
A
